A 3 mm ACP sheet is an aluminium composite panel with a total panel thickness of 3 millimetres. It is generally made by bonding two aluminium skins to a core material, then applying a protective surface coating on the visible face. Within our 3 mm range, aluminium skin thickness varies from 0.12 mm to 0.30 mm, while alloy, coating and core specifications also change by product grade. For example, AL312 is listed with 0.12 mm AA1100 skins and an LDPE core, while AL33D uses 0.30 mm AA3105 skins and lists LDPE, FRB1 and FRB core options. SUITABILITY CHECK

When should you consider 4 mm or 6 mm ACP sheets instead?

A 3 mm ACP panel should not be selected simply because it is lighter or costs less. A different ACP sheet thickness or specification should be evaluated when the proposed panel module is larger, wind pressure is higher, support spacing changes, the façade is more exposed, or project drawings and consultant requirements call for another configuration. Equally, thicker does not automatically mean better. Overall panel thickness is only one part of the specification. Aluminium skin thickness, alloy, core type, coating, panel dimensions, sub-frame, fixing system and façade design must be considered together.

How do you calculate how many 3 mm ACP sheets you need?

Start with the project area, but do not order ACP sheets by area alone. Sheet quantity also depends on the selected sheet size, panel module, cutting plan, folds, returns, joints, openings and finish direction. Use this sequence: measure the gross application area → deduct openings only where appropriate → confirm the selected sheet dimensions → prepare the panel/cutting layout → account for routing, folds and returns → add project-specific wastage → round up to complete sheets → verify the final cutting plan with the fabricator.

Illustrative area example

A wall measuring 10 ft × 8 ft has a gross area of 80 sq ft. If the designer uses an illustrative 10% planning allowance, the planning area becomes 88 sq. ft. This is only a calculation example and not a standard wastage percentage. Actual wastage depends on panel size, joint layout, finish direction, folds, openings and cutting optimisation.

For exterior applications, the project maintenance plan should also include periodic inspection of panel edges, joints, sealants, fixings and adjacent components. Does a 3 mm ACP sheet automatically have a fire rating?

No. The fact that an ACP is 3 mm thick does not establish its fire performance. Core formulation and the tested panel construction must be checked separately. Our current 3 mm ACP sheets have different core options across products. For example, LDPE, FRB1 and, in selected configurations, FRB. Buyers should confirm the exact product code and request the fire-performance documentation applicable to the actual panel being specified.

Before purchase, verify the product identification, aluminium skin specification, core, coating, intended application, relevant technical data sheet, test/classification documents where required, warranty conditions and consultant/authority approval applicable to the project. Fire and façade decisions should not be based on thickness or a marketing description alone.
