Retail signage and shopfront guide

ACP Sheet for Retail Signages: Aludecor SignEx Guide

At Aludecor, we treat every retail sign as part of a brand's built identity. An ACP board is a composite panel that can be used as a flat, routed, folded or fabricated substrate for fascia signs, shopfront branding, hoardings, kiosks and channel-letter backdrops. The right ACP board design helps control colour, joint placement, letter scale, lighting and long-distance visibility. Not every panel is automatically suitable for outdoor signage. We recommend checking the complete product grade, aluminium skin, alloy, core, coating, finish, approved application and installation system. Colour appearance can change with UV exposure, heat, pollution, orientation, cleaning and lighting.

Our SignEx range is designed for corporate identity and signage boards, but final selection still depends on the project specification. The quoted ACP signage board price may cover only raw material. A finished sign can also include cutting, routing, folding, vinyl, letters, LEDs, support frame, installation, freight and taxes.

Quick answer: An ACP signage board gives retailers a flat, lightweight and fabricable surface for shopfront fascia, channel-letter backdrops, kiosks, hoardings and branded enclosures. We select the panel by location, grade, aluminium skin, core, coating, colour, finish and support system, while the approved ACP board design coordinates joints, letters, lighting, access and maintenance. Our SignEx range is developed for signage and corporate-identity applications, but the final order should always follow the approved physical sample, current product specification and written project quotation.

Material fundamentals

What is an ACP signage board?

We use the term ACP board for a sandwich panel made with two aluminium skins around a core, finished with a factory-applied surface coating and protected during transport by a removable film.

01
Protective filmProtects the finished face during handling and should be removed as instructed.
02
Coated aluminium skinProvides colour, finish and the visible signage surface.
03
Adhesive layerBonds the aluminium skin to the core.
04
LDPE or fire-retardant coreSelected by product grade, application and required documentation.
05
Bottom aluminium skin and service coatCompletes the panel and supports corrosion protection on the reverse.
What the panel can do

From sheet to finished sign

Depending on the selected product grade and fabrication requirement, an ACP board can be cut, routed, grooved, drilled, folded and formed into fascia, sign faces, backing panels, enclosures and retail identity elements.

  • Support vinyl graphics, printed branding and cut lettering.
  • Provide a flat background for acrylic or channel letters.
  • Create folded returns, clean corners and concealed edges.
  • Coordinate with LEDs, wiring, drivers and access panels.
  • Allow planned replacement of damaged or rebranded modules.
Applications

ACP Sheets for Retail Signages and Shop Fronts

We select the panel and ACP board design for the actual location, service conditions and brand objective.

ACP Sheets for Retail Signages

  • Storefront fascia and brand backdrop panels
  • Retail kiosks and point-of-sale structures
  • Mall wayfinding and directional signage
  • Franchise sign systems and pylon cladding
  • Channel-letter backing panels

For multi-location programs, we recommend one approved ACP board specification, a repeatable ACP board design, master colour sample and controlled fabrication drawing.

ACP Sheets for Shop Front

  • Fascia continuity and folded returns
  • Logo and letter placement
  • Lighting, joints and service access
  • Corners, openings and signboard depth
  • Cleaning and replacement planning

A successful ACP board design coordinates material, signage, structure, lighting and maintenance rather than treating the panel as an isolated finish.

Outdoor signs and hoardings

  • Exterior shop signs and building fascia
  • Construction-site and promotional hoardings
  • Pylon and freestanding signs
  • Forecourt and retail-park identity systems
  • Exterior channel-letter assemblies

We review coating, UV exposure, heat, rain, pollution, wind, frame, fixings, electrical work, fire requirements and local signage rules so the ACP board design suits the actual site exposure.

Brand visibility

Colour consistency is part of retail identity

A well-resolved ACP board design helps customers recognise a store in daylight, artificial light, photographs and repeated locations.

What influences colour appearance?

  • Coating quality, pigment and approved finish
  • Primer, pretreatment and documented coat build
  • Gloss, texture, viewing angle and illumination
  • Approved physical sample and production batch
  • UV exposure, heat, pollution and orientation
  • Cleaning method, runoff and replacement age

For brand-critical signage, we recommend freezing the product grade, shade, gloss, batch controls and ACP board design details

Colour-fading risk

Why retail signage colours can change over time

We do not describe any exterior surface as permanently fade-proof. Colour change can be gradual, uneven or especially visible where old and new panels meet.

  • Long-term UV, heat, rain, pollution and orientation affect ageing; the ACP board design should account for the actual exposure.
  • Coating family, pigment, gloss, primer and aluminium skin influence appearance.
  • An interior-grade finish should not be assumed suitable for exterior use.
  • Abrasive cleaning, incompatible chemicals and poor drainage can damage the surface.
  • Batch variation can become visible when adjacent or replacement panels are installed together.
  • Approve the physical sample, record the batch and follow written cleaning guidance.
Test Nahi Toh Trust Nahi

Trust colour, coating and material claims only after verification

Appearance on installation day does not demonstrate long-term performance. We encourage retailers, fabricators and brand teams to check the complete specification, approved sample, supplied batch and available test evidence before approving an ACP board.

  • Verify paint quality, coating thickness and batch consistency.
  • Review weathering, colour and gloss-retention evidence where applicable.
  • Confirm bonding, peel strength and panel construction.
  • Match invoice, protective film and product label with the approved grade.
Our Signage Range

How we position Aludecor SignEx

We developed SignEx for signage and corporate-identity applications, with product options that can be matched to the location, performance requirement and fabrication scope.

  • AL3C: 3 mm panel with 0.20 mm aluminium skin for signage and corporate-identity applications; confirm the selected core, coating and shade.
  • AL33: 3 mm panel with 0.25 mm aluminium skin for corporate identity and selected façade applications.
  • AL33D: 3 mm panel with 0.30 mm AA3105 skin for selected corporate-identity, façade and fuel-station applications.
  • AL43: 4 mm panel with 0.25 mm aluminium skin where a 4 mm signage or façade configuration is required.
  • AL45: 4 mm panel with 0.50 mm aluminium skin for corporate-identity and exterior applications, including fuel-station projects where the selected configuration is approved.

Final selection should follow the approved shade sample, product specification, project exposure, fabrication requirement and written quotation.

Product comparison

Ordinary ACP Panels vs Aludecor SignEx ACP Panels

We compare the written specification rather than relying on a generic label. An ordinary ACP board can perform well when its grade is clearly defined; a suitableACP board design starts with matching the product specification to the signage application.

What we advise signage buyers to avoid

Most avoidable signage problems begin before the material reaches the workshop.

  • Choosing by colour chip alone: approve the complete grade, coating, physical sample and intended application.
  • Treating every ACP board as signage grade: verify product series, skins, alloy, core and exposure suitability.
  • Assuming colour will never fade: review coating, exposure, test evidence and written warranty conditions.
  • Comparing only sheet price: separate material, fabrication, letters, lighting, frame and installation.
  • Mixing batches without review: record the batch and compare adjacent panels before fixing.
  • Ignoring support and electrical access: coordinate the frame, fixings, drivers, wiring and service panels.
  • Ordering before drawings are approved: freeze the ACP board design, modules, joints, returns, letters and shop drawings first.
  • Accepting unsupported claims: request the product specification, coating declaration, test evidence and batch identity.
