Dimensions, thickness and planning

ACP Sheet Sizes: A Comprehensive Aludecor Guide

ACP sheet sizes usually describe the width and length of an aluminium composite panel, while ACP sheet thickness is specified separately. Our commonly published standard formats are 2440 x 1220 mm, 3050 x 1220 mm and 3660 x 1220 mm, with verified product options in 3 mm, 4 mm and 6 mm overall thicknesses.

Two ACP sheets with the same width and length can still differ in aluminium skin, alloy, core, coating, finish, grade and intended application. At Aludecor, we recommend selecting dimensions only after the panel module, fabrication returns, finish direction, transport, site handling and installation method have been reviewed.

Larger sheets do not automatically reduce project cost. They may reduce joints in one layout and increase offcuts or logistics complexity in another. We therefore distinguish nominal sheet area from usable fabricated area and advise project teams to coordinate the final size with approved drawings and the fabricator's cutting plan.

Quick answer

What should you know before selecting ACP sheet sizes?

We advise buyers to compare dimensions and the complete panel specification together.
  • ACP sheet size normally means width x length.
  • Overall panel thickness is stated separately.
  • Aluminium skin and core thickness are separate values.
  • Standard sizes simplify availability but may not optimise every layout.
  • Custom dimensions require technical and commercial confirmation.
  • Gross sheet area is not the same as usable fabricated coverage.
  • Directional finishes can change cutting yield.
  • Quantity should be validated through drawings and a nesting plan.
  • Longer sheets may reduce joints but complicate logistics.
  • Price comparisons must use the same dimensions and specification.
Terminology

What do ACP sheet sizes mean?

In normal commercial use, ACP sheet sizes refer mainly to width and length. A complete specification may be written as width x length x overall thickness, usually in millimetres.
Nominal sheet size

Width and length ordered

The catalogue or quotation dimension before project-specific cutting and fabrication.
Usable cutting size

Area available for nesting

The dimension remaining after any required trimming, damaged edges, finish direction and cutting clearances.
Finished panel size

Visible or installed module

The approved panel after grooves, folds, returns, joints, cassettes and edge treatments are incorporated.
Our recommendation: Never use “sheet size”, “fabrication size”, “finished panel size” and “installed module” as interchangeable terms. Each belongs to a different stage of the project.
Standard dimensions

Standard Aludecor ACP sheet sizes

Our published catalogue and product filters identify three common 1220 mm-wide formats. Actual availability varies by grade, shade, finish, thickness, core and quantity, so we confirm the selected combination in the current quotation.

12 x 4 ft1220 mm3660 mm4.4652 m2 / about 48.06 sq ft3 mm, 4 mm and 6 mm, subject to gradeLong sheet; confirm handling, transport and fabrication.

Gross area is mathematical sheet area. It is not a promise of finished cladding coverage. Special-width and large-format requirements must be confirmed for the exact product specification.

Grade relationship

How our product grades relate to ACP sheet sizes

A grade is a complete construction specification, not only a size. We read width, thickness, aluminium skins, alloy, core, coating and intended application together.

Separate specifications

ACP sheet size vs ACP sheet thickness

ACP sheet sizes and ACP sheet thickness describe different parts of the specification. Equal width and length do not make two panels equivalent.

Common thicknesses

How 3 mm, 4 mm and 6 mm options relate to dimensions

We do not recommend selecting overall thickness independently of aluminium skin, core, coating, panel module and support system.
3 mm

Lightweight panel family

Verified grades include AL312, AL32, AL3C, AL33 and AL33D. Applications range from interiors to selected exterior and signage uses depending on the complete grade.
4 mm

Broad exterior-grade range

Verified grades include AL43, AL43D, AL445, AL4E, AL45, AL45D and AL4C. The same 4 mm thickness can contain very different skins, alloys, cores and coatings.
6 mm

Higher overall build-up

Verified grades include AL63 and AL65. Panel module, wind design, support spacing and handling still require project-specific review.

Standard or custom

When should a custom ACP sheet size be considered?

Standard formats generally make procurement, cutting and replacement planning simpler. A custom ACP sheet size may be worth studying when a repeated panel module produces avoidable joints or offcuts, but it must remain technically and commercially feasible.
We confirm custom dimensions only after reviewing: product range, width, length, thickness, skins, core, coating, colour, quantity, coil width, production scheduling, packaging, freight, site access and project timeline.

Custom does not automatically mean lower wastage

  • The panel layout must repeatedly use the proposed dimension.
  • Directional finishes may restrict rotation and nesting.
  • Special widths or lengths may require minimum quantities.
  • Long sheets can increase lifting and transport requirements.
  • Replacement stock may be harder to source later.
  • Current technical data and quotation must confirm availability.
Large formats such as 1550 x 6000 mm are treated as project-specific, requiring confirmation of the exact grade, finish, quantity, lead time, and logistics prior to commitment.

Application guidance

How ACP sheet sizes change by application

The correct panel format depends on what will be fabricated and installed, not only on the gross surface area.
Exterior facades
We coordinate elevation modules with wind design, support spacing, cassette depth, returns, joints, finish direction, lifting and replacement access.
  • Do not assume one universal facade size.
  • Check corner zones and building height.
  • Confirm transport before selecting long sheets.
Interior wall cladding
Wall height, doors, openings, impact areas, pattern continuity and access determine the most efficient layout.
  • Align joints with architectural lines.
  • Optimise repeated wall modules.
  • Protect directional finishes.
Signage
Sign dimensions, folded returns, routing, printing or vinyl, support framing, wind exposure and transport influence the sheet format.
  • Account for face and return depth.
  • Confirm machine-bed capacity.
  • Plan offcut reuse for letters and panels.
Ceilings and soffits
Module size must coordinate with the suspension system, services, access panels, support, handling and replacement strategy.
  • Do not ignore access openings.
  • Review sagging and support.
  • Coordinate service cut-outs.
Columns
Column circumference, vertical joints, curved or faceted fabrication, grain direction and cut optimisation drive the sheet layout.
  • Check bending or faceting method.
  • Maintain finish direction.
  • Allow for closure and vertical joints.
Canopies, parapets and fascia
Long visible lines can make joint placement important, but runoff, edge returns, support and access remain critical.
  • Coordinate water paths.
  • Check edge and corner fabrication.
  • Balance joint reduction with logistics.
Price implications

How ACP sheet sizes influence ACP sheet price

ACP sheet price may change with width, length, total area, thickness, aluminium skin, core, coating, finish, grade, custom production, quantity, packaging, freight, fabrication and wastage. A higher per-sheet price does not automatically mean a higher per-square-metre or installed cost. We advise buyers to normalise the price to the same gross area and complete specification. Per-sheet and per-square-foot quotes cannot be compared until the sheet dimensions are known.

Common misunderstandings

ACP sheet sizes buyers often misunderstand

Standard is not always optimal

A standard format can be available and still produce unnecessary joints or offcuts in a particular module.

Gross is not usable

Grooves, returns, cuts and finish direction reduce the portion that becomes installed panels.

Thickness is separate

Width and length do not reveal overall panel thickness, skin thickness, core or grade.

Longer is not always cheaper

Long sheets can reduce joints but add transport, lifting, workshop and replacement challenges.
